Outpost
Mail and calendar for University of Münster Exchange accounts, on iPhone and iPad.
Outpost is a small, independent app for reading and answering university mail and keeping the calendar in view. It talks to the university's own Exchange server and nothing else: no account with us, no analytics, no tracking.
What you need
- An iPhone or iPad with iOS 27 or iPadOS 27.
- A University of Münster account with an Exchange mailbox. You sign in with your university ID and password, the same ones you use for Outlook.
- A connection to the university VPN. The Exchange server (exchange.wwu.de) only answers from inside the university network, so Outpost cannot load new mail without the VPN. Mail it has already loaded stays readable offline.
Outpost is a private project by Jonathan Hoke, Institute for Entrepreneurship. It is not an official app of the University of Münster, and the university's IT services do not support it. Please send questions about the app to the address below, not to the IT help desk.
Common questions
Sign-in fails or nothing loads
Check that the VPN is connected first; that is the cause almost every time. If the VPN is on and Outpost says your password was refused, sign in to Outlook on the web with the same ID and password to make sure they still work.
Where is my data kept?
Your mail stays on the university's server. Outpost keeps your password in the iPhone Keychain and an offline copy of recent mail on the device. Signing out removes both. The privacy policy has the details.
Can I change my out-of-office reply?
Outpost shows whether your automatic reply is on, but turning it on or off is done in Outlook.
